The name we are using is 'caliper' which refers to an instrument for measuring dimensions of objects. A 'Vernier' caliper is the background image for this blog, a tool often associated with watch design.
Visually, this little device embodies the aesthetic of precision tools from the mid twentieth century. How the scale works epitomizes the brilliance and elegance of machine age engineering.

We also thought it was an interesting connection that another term for a watch movement is 'caliber', so the name is also a little play on words as we make the movement, the caliber, a key and visible feature of the caliper watch.
