The design of this watch is based in a technical aesthetic from the mid-twentieth century. I love the straight forward aesthetic of brushed steel instruments. I like the precision of crisp markings and minimal fonts.

A major feature of the watch I wanted to emphasize was the mechanical movement. The motion of the balance wheel and escapement would be a key feature. At the same time I did not want to make the design completely subservient to the inner workings. I had in my mind an idea of a semi-transparent surface. Here’s an early collage:

To achieve the right balance of opacity would be the challenge. I soon hit upon a mid-century graphic device: the dot screen!
